Q. What are dental veneers?

A. Dental veneers are wafer-thin shells made from porcelain that are applied to the front of your teeth by your Oakville dentist to hide problem areas and other dental imperfections. This cosmetic procedure is a non-invasive and virtually painless way to get a straighter, whiter smile.

Q. What problems can dental veneers cover?

A. Dental veneers can be used to hide a variety of flaws including,

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overcrowding/overlapping teeth
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Discolored or stained teeth
  • Misshapen or crooked teeth

Most minor dental problems can be covered by dental veneers to makeover your smile.

Q. How will my Oakville cosmetic dentist apply my veneers?

A. Getting dental veneers requires two separate visits to get your new smile. The first visit will entail tooth preparation. All tooth preparation performed by your Oakville dentist will be minimal and won’t require anesthesia. We will start by shaving a small amount of enamel from your teeth (no more than ½ millimeter). This will ensure that when we apply the veneers that they aren’t bulky. Then we will take impressions of your teeth and choose the proper shade for your veneers.

Once your veneers are fabricated you will come back in for your second visit so we can apply them. We will temporary place them over your teeth to get your approval and to make any final adjustments. Once you have approved the look we will use special cement to apply them and then use a laser to harden the cement.

Q. How do I care for dental veneers?

A. Dental veneers do not require special treatment. In fact, you can treat them just like natural teeth. This means continuing to brush and floss your teeth regularly, as well as keeping up with your six-month check-ups with your Oakville dentist to make sure your veneers are doing well.

Q. Are dental veneers right for me?

A. If you are looking to hide small dental flaws without time-consuming or invasive treatments then dental veneers could be the cosmetic treatment you’ve been looking for. While dental veneers can be a great option for many of our patients, they aren’t right for everyone. Teeth grinders and those with worn down teeth that do not contain enough enamel will not benefit from this treatment.
